1873 – the year of the Vienna World‘s Fair.Bustling activity dominates the city. Vienna was filled with excitement and energy that held people in its spell, especially Xaver Loibner, the young scullion. He created the first square cake for Emperor Franz Joseph I. on the special occasion of the opening of the luxurious Hotel Imperial Vienna on 28 April 1873. Legend has it that this event marked the birth of the renowned Imperial Torte Wien. Even 150 years later, the Hotel Imperial and its exquisite Viennese master confection still fascinate gourmets and connoisseurs with its uniqueness.
