This version of the Imperial Torte reveals its darker side: six crispy layers of sliced almonds are embedded in delicate chocolate cream, flavoured with a hint of coffee, and all wrapped in the most exquisite dark Imperial icing. Choice citrus fruits are meticulously processed for the delicate orange marzipan, to make this famous cake from Vienna even more exclusive.
Once the private residence of Duke Philipp of Württemberg, this magnificent palais turned into Hotel Imperial Vienna on the occasion of the World’s Fair in 1873.
According to legend, the Imperial Torte Vienna has been created from the Imperial Hotel’s young kitchen servant Xaver Loibner in occasion of the grand opening of the Hotel Imperial in 1873. Since then, the unique Viennese confection in typical quadratic shape, is handmade in great passion by masters of the Hotel. Once, created to emperor Franz Josef I, this unique Austrian chocolate almond cake represents the tradition and culture of Vienna and delights people all over the world.
